Practitioners may now choose between completing a minimum of 1 continuing professional education unit (CPEU) related to ethics OR 1 CPEU related to health equity as a part of the five-year recertification requirements.
The following information is intended to assist CDR credentialed practitioners in maintaining competence and advancing practice:
- Equity is the absence of avoidable, unfair, or remediable differences among groups of people, whether those groups are defined socially, economically, demographically or geographically or by other means of stratification. “Health equity” or “equity in health” implies that ideally everyone should have a fair opportunity to attain their full health potential and that no one should be disadvantaged from achieving this potential.
- Health equity is one of the overarching goals in the Surgeon General’s report on Healthy People 2030.
- Visit CDR’s Definition of Terms List for additional information on Health Equity.
- Examples of Health Equity CPE topics include but are not limited to global impact in eliminating all forms of malnutrition, sustainability, equitable access to food, nutrition, and other lifestyle-related services and programs, social determinants of health, health disparities, cultural competence, equitable access to safe and nutritious food and water, advocacy or legislative and regulatory food, nutrition, and health-equity related policies.
- Review ethics OR health equity CPEU information.
The 2020-2025 Essential Practice Competencies have been modified to include Sphere 2: Health Equity.
- Review the updated Essential Practice Competencies.
- To accommodate the addition of Sphere 2: Health Equity, subsequent spheres and competencies have been renumbered. For example, the former Sphere 2: Communications is now Sphere 3: Communications.
NOTE: Spheres and competencies selected on a practitioner’s learning plan do not need to match those selected in the activity log. Practitioners do not need to edit spheres and competencies selected for activities recorded prior to the implementation of this update.
