It will explore the Hmong diaspora and how food and food practices have evolved. Pending 1 CPE. \nObjectives: \n\n Identify who are the Hmong people and how they came to the United States of America.\n Describe Hmong cultural foods and practices and how they have evolved.\n Identify common medical conditions in the Hmong community where nutrition may impact.\n\nSphere 2: Health Equity- Advocates for health equity in nutrition and dietetics care and services\, mindful of unavoidable\, unfair or remediable differences among individuals or populations. Sphere 9: Food\, Nutrition and Dietetics\, Sphere 10: Education and Counseling \nMaita Lee is a registered dietitian (RD) who is currently working as a supervisor and the outreach coordinator for the St. Paul–Ramsey County Public Health Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women\, Infants\, and Children (WIC). She previously served as the diversity\, inclusion\, equity\, and belonging director for the Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND). Maita was determined to become an RD so that she can be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to decrease food insecurity and increase the health and wellness of underserved communities through nutrition. She has taken initiative to understand various community needs and to find innovative ways for expanding food access. Her journey has led her to focus her efforts on public health nutrition and repairing broken systems that hinder health equity.
